Judge

About Judge

Meet Judge (闇の司法官ジャッジ), an action, horror and supernatural anime (1991). Here is the premise in a nutshell. What the story covers: Hoichiro Ohma works in an office. Everybody knows him as a silent, humble man.

Next up: Even his girlfriend, Nanase, doesn't suspect that he could be something more, but he is. When a person dies as a victim of murder; when someone kills himself with a curse on his lips; when someone's death needs to be judged, he is there, for he is a Judge Of Darkness. Following the Laws Of Darkness, with a book made of human skin and an unusual parrot, he pronounces judgement over living criminals that would otherwise go free.

With action at the core, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Houichirou Ooma (Kaneto Shiozawa) and Enma-ou (Daisuke Gouri) are two of the characters you will meet early. Think of it as a pick for viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. The run is 1 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 5.2/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. On the casting side, Kaneto Shiozawa voicing Houichirou Ooma gives the lead role a recognizable voice. It aired in 1991, which makes it easy to place in the wider anime calendar.
