Canaan

About Canaan

If you are hunting for a new action series, Canaan (カナン) deserves a look (2009). The setup goes like this. The setup: Oosawa Maria is a Japanese photographer currently working in Shanghai, China. Along with her partner Mino, she searches for potential newsworthy stories throughout the city.

Further in, when odd events occur at a local festival, Maria and Mino immediately investigate. Fast, the two are immersed in a clash between unknown masked men and a strange, white-haired woman. Just when Maria is about to be caught in the crossfire, an old companion by the name of Canaan appears and helps Maria escape.

In an action series like this, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Canaan (Miyuki Sawashiro) and Alphard Al Sheya (Maaya Sakamoto) are two of the characters you will meet early. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list. With 13 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.
