About Capricorn
Looking for background on Capricorn (カプリコン)? This action, adventure and comedy series by Aubeck (1991) starts out like this. At its core: In the blink of an eye, high school student Taku Shimamura comes across himself transported to the bizarre realm of Slaffleaze, where intelligent creatures govern and the ruling class, led by the villainous Zolba. Joining together with the oppressed Slaffleaze peasants, Taku needs to find a way to stop Zolba`s dark forces before the way to the unsuspecting Earth is opened.
Soon after, in order to do so, he needs to first gain the love and trust of the last of the Yappie, the ancestral guardians of Slaffeaze. This is a task that will take more than a little courage and daring, for the last Yappie is not just a cute young female, she`s also a dragon.
As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Taku (Masami Kikuchi) and Mona (Naoko Matsui) are two of the characters you will meet early. Think of it as a pick for viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. At 1 episodes in total, it is easy to plan a viewing schedule.
Production & Appeal
Production sits with Aubeck, which means the visual identity of Capricorn follows that studio's craft. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 5.1/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. On the casting side, Masami Kikuchi voicing Taku gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 1991, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
