Ikki Tousen: Dragon Destiny

About Ikki Tousen: Dragon Destiny

If you are hunting for a new action series, Ikki Tousen: Dragon Destiny (一騎当千 Dragon Destiny) deserves a look (2007). The setup goes like this. At its core: Loosely based on the novel 'Romance of the three kingdoms', modern day Japan sees a similar struggle for strength between different rival schools with the three strongest being; Kyosho Academy led by Sousou Moutoku. Together these three tousei, each with their own mangatama, fight for the honour of becoming ikki tousen and fulfilling their fated destiny through battle and conquest.

With action at the core, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Hakufu Sonsaku (Masumi Asano) and Koukin Shuuyu (Satoshi Hino) are two of the characters you will meet early.

This one is best suited to viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. With 12 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

ARMS is the studio behind Ikki Tousen: Dragon Destiny, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 6.3/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Voice casting, including Masumi Asano as Hakufu Sonsaku, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2007, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
