Canaan

About Canaan

Meet Canaan (カナン), an action, sci-fi and supernatural anime by P.A.WORKS (2009). Here is the premise in a nutshell. In short: Oosawa Maria is a Japanese photographer currently working in Shanghai, China. Along with her partner Mino, she searches for potential newsworthy stories throughout the town.

Along the way, when odd events occur at a local festival, Maria and Mino immediately investigate. Fast, the two are immersed in a battle between unknown masked men and a strange, white-haired woman. Just when Maria is about to be caught in the crossfire, an old friend by the name of Canaan appears and helps Maria escape.

With action at the core, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Voice work is led by Miyuki Sawashiro as Canaan and Maaya Sakamoto as Alphard Al Sheya. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list. With 13 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.
