Dropkick on My Devil!

About Dropkick on My Devil!

Dropkick on My Devil! (邪神ちゃんドロップキック) blends comedy, slice of life and supernatural by Nomad (2018). Below is a fresh retelling of what the story is about. The setup: The demon Jashin-chan has been summoned to Earth by Yurine Hanazono, a girl with a knack for the occult. Unfortunately, Yurine does not actually know how to send Jashin-chan back to Hell.

Along the way, now stuck on Earth, she needs to live at Yurine's apartment as her familiar. The only way for Jashin-chan to return would be to kill her summoner, but this is easier said than done for the incompetent demon. Since Jashin-chan is immortal and can regenerate her body, Yurine does not hold back in attacking her with a range of weapons, punishing her in gruesome manners for her evil schemes.

With comedy at the core, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. Jashin-chan (Aina Suzuki) and Yurine Hanazono (Nichika Oomori) are two of the characters you will meet early. This one is best suited to viewers who want something light between heavier series. At 11 episodes in total, it is easy to plan a viewing schedule.

Production & Appeal

Nomad is the studio behind Dropkick on My Devil!, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. Because it leans on comedy, timing, character chemistry and running gags decide whether it lands. With a 6.7/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Voice casting, including Aina Suzuki as Jashin-chan, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2018, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
