Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge

About Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge

Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge (Vampire Hunter) blends action, adventure and fantasy by Madhouse (1997). Below is a fresh retelling of what the story is about. At its core: The world is a dark, brooding place populated by humans, but ruled in reality by mighty beings known as the Darkstalkers, and there is constant conflict between them as they try to determine who is the most powerful of them all. Zombies, vampires, werewolves - all of them compete in contests of strength and sheer will to attain their own personal goals.

More of the story: All of this turns into moot when a race of Aztec robots called the Huitzil decide that humanity isn't worth saving, and start waging war on the world, while in the sky, a solar god from outer space plots the conquest of Earth. The Darkstalkers has to become unwilling allies in order to save the world.

In an action series like this, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Think of it as a pick for viewers who like fast, high-impact fights.

Production & Appeal

Madhouse is the studio behind Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 6.7/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Released in 1997, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
