The Life of Budori Gusuko

About The Life of Budori Gusuko

The Life of Budori Gusuko (グスコーブドリの伝記) blends drama, fantasy and slice of life by Tezuka Productions and Studio elle (2012). Below is a fresh retelling of what the story is about. The premise: The fairy tale follows a young man named Guskou in the Tohoku forests of northeastern Japan in the 1920s. After an onslaught of droughts and natural disasters, Guskou is pushed to leave his home and search for a better life elsewhere.

Another thread: Guskou joins a group of scientists at the Ihatov Volcano Department, which deals with the same natural disasters that drove Guskou from his home.

In a drama series like this, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Narrator (Akira Emoto) and Sonohokasei (Shiori Ikeda) are two of the characters you will meet early. Think of it as a pick for viewers who prefer story and feelings over flashy action. With 1 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with Tezuka Productions and Studio elle, which means the visual identity of The Life of Budori Gusuko follows that studio's craft. Within the drama category, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. With a 6.2/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. On the casting side, Akira Emoto voicing Narrator gives the lead role a recognizable voice. Released in 2012, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
