Purple River English Sub & Dub

About Purple River

Purple River (紫川) arrives as an action anime by Build Dream (2021), and the premise is easy to summarize. What the story covers: Two hundred years ago, on the Battlefield of the Blue River, the last remaining army of the Empire of Light collapsed in the midst of demonic outcries. As the last Field Marshal and Emperor fell, the chaotic world of the Western River no longer had a common ruler.

Next up: Factions were formed and endless conflicts ensued, military might became the only currency of survival, and the dream to reunite the lands became the sole goal of many rulers in the generations that came after. In the south-eastern part of the land, a formidable faction with over two hundred years of history – House Zichuan – fought off the Demons to the east, defended against the House Liufeng to the west. In order to accomplish their great ambitions and extend the bloodline of their family, countless heroes of Zichuan gave their lives in order to make this magnificent hymn come to life.

As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list. The run is 42 episodes in total, so you know what you are signing up for.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with Build Dream, which means the visual identity of Purple River follows that studio's craft. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 6.7/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. It aired in 2021, which makes it easy to place in the wider anime calendar.
