Munto 2: Beyond the Walls of Time

About Munto 2: Beyond the Walls of Time

Munto 2: Beyond the Walls of Time (MUNTO 時の壁を越えて) arrives as an action anime by Kyoto Animation and Animation Do (2005), and the premise is easy to summarize. The setup: Two years have passed since the catastrophic event known as the "Continent's Dropping" from the first OVA episode. Yumemi still has not forgotten her ability to see the realm above, but now she's in the last years of middle school, tests and real life take over.

Beyond that: Unknown to the people of the world, Akuto the realm still thrives, but the war rages on. In need of help, Gaz, sends Munto down into Earth once more to find the "Girl of Destiny" in order to save Heaven from its ultimately demise. Yumemi needs to once confront the only world she sees, and not even her allies Ichiko and Suzune can help her.

With action at the core, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Yumemi Hidaka (Haruna Mima) and Munto (Masakazu Higo) are two of the characters you will meet early. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list. With 1 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Production sits with Kyoto Animation and Animation Do, which means the visual identity of Munto 2: Beyond the Walls of Time follows that studio's craft. Because it leans on action, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 6.3/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Voice casting, including Haruna Mima as Yumemi Hidaka, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2005, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
