Paul Rusch: His Life and Dream

About Paul Rusch: His Life and Dream

Paul Rusch: His Life and Dream (夢かける高原 清里の父 ポール・ラッシュ) blends drama and slice of life by Magic Bus and Tama Production (2002). Below is a fresh retelling of what the story is about. In short: In 1925 Paul Rusch, an American missionary, arrived in Japan to help The Young Men's Christian Association with reconstruction efforts after the Great Kantou earthquake. Through his association with the Anglican Church he also became a professor at Rikkyo University in Tokyo and deepened his attachement to Japan as a result of conversations with his students.

More of the story: However, he had to leave the country when the Pacific War broke out. In 1945 Paul came to Japan again as an officer of General Headquarters and grieved over the deaths of many of his former pupils. He vowed to dedicate the rest of his life to helping the people living in Kiyosato - a highland area in Yamanashi Prefecture.

With drama at the core, character writing and emotional payoff matter more than spectacle. Think of it as a pick for viewers who prefer story and feelings over flashy action. With 1 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.
