About Kai Feng Qitan: Zhege Baogong Bu Taixing

Kai Feng Qitan: Zhege Baogong Bu Taixing (开封奇谈-这个包公不太行) blends action and comedy by Studio LAN and Colored Pencil Animation (2017). Below is a fresh retelling of what the story is about. The premise: North Song Dynasty in long-lost China, a legendary figure emerged in North Song's capital Kai Feng. He is governor Zheng Bao.

Also worth knowing: Peasants call him Bao Gong (Lord Bao). In a corrupted government, he differentiates himself by demonstrating extreme honestly, uprightness, impartiality, and the courage to uphold justice, which, won him the title "Justice Bao". In Chinese folklore, Zheng Bao is the reincarnation of Megrez (Chinese God of Wisdom) and possesses supernatural powers.

With action at the core, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list. With 10 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by Studio LAN and Colored Pencil Animation, so the studio's house style defines how Kai Feng Qitan: Zhege Baogong Bu Taixing looks and moves on screen. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 5.1/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. It aired in 2017, which makes it easy to place in the wider anime calendar.
