Battle Angel Alita

About Battle Angel Alita

Meet Battle Angel Alita (銃夢), an action, drama and sci-fi anime by MADHOUSE (1993). Here is the premise in a nutshell. The setup: Doc Ido, a doctor and mechanic who lives and works in the hellish, postapocalyptic "Scrapyard", comes across the—miraculously preserved—remains of a female cyborg in a junk heap. After he revives and rebuilds her, the preternaturally capable, amnesiac "Gally" starts to forge a life for herself in a world where every day can bring a fight for life.

Next up: Adapts the first two volumes of the "Clash Angel Alita" manga.

As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Voice work is led by Miki Itou as Gally and Shunsuke Kairya as Ido Daisuke. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list. With 2 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

MADHOUSE is the studio behind Battle Angel Alita, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 6.7/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. On the casting side, Miki Itou voicing Gally gives the lead role a recognizable voice. It aired in 1993, which makes it easy to place in the wider anime calendar.
