Usuzumizakura -GARO-

About Usuzumizakura -GARO-

If you are hunting for a new action series, Usuzumizakura -GARO- (薄墨桜 -GARO-) deserves a look (2018). The setup goes like this. At its core: The Heian realm, the beautiful capital Kyo in its glorious splendor. When two attractive Onmyouji meet, the sad, ephemeral, yet beautiful cherry blossoms… …will bloom after a millennium.

In an action series like this, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Fujiwara no Yasusuke (Daisuke Namikawa) and Kintoki (Akiko Yajima) are two of the characters you will meet early.

This one is best suited to viewers who like fast, high-impact fights. With 1 episodes in total, there is enough room for the story to develop.

Production & Appeal

Animation is handled by Studio M2, so the studio's house style defines how Usuzumizakura -GARO- looks and moves on screen. Within the action category, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. With a 6.3/10 score, it is more of a niche pick than a universal crowd-pleaser. Voice casting, including Daisuke Namikawa as Fujiwara no Yasusuke, adds to the appeal for fans who follow seiyuu. Released in 2018, it competed with that season's other new series for attention.
