RELEASE THE SPYCE

About RELEASE THE SPYCE

RELEASE THE SPYCE arrives as an action anime by Lay-duce (2018), and the premise is easy to summarize. What the story covers: Momo Minamoto is a high school girl living an average life in Sorasaki City – until she is recruited to join a private information agency called “Tsukikage”. As it turns out, Tsukikage is actually a spy organization whose assignment is to protect the peace and preserve justice from behind the scenes.

As things develop, the girls use secret tools and use specially created spices which enhance their abilities. Through Tsukikage’s mentoring system, the girls not only grow stronger, but closer. Together, they train their hearts and minds as weapons to confront against evil.

As an action title, fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Voice work is led by Yukari Anzai as Momo Minamoto and Aya Uchida as Hatsume Aoba. If you count yourself among viewers who like fast, high-impact fights, put it on your list. At 12 episodes in total, it is easy to plan a viewing schedule.

Production & Appeal

Lay-duce is the studio behind RELEASE THE SPYCE, and its direction shapes everything from character design to motion. The action focus matters here: fight choreography, pacing and sound design carry much of the weight. Its 6.7/10 score suggests opinions are split, so it suits viewers who already like the genre. On the casting side, Yukari Anzai voicing Momo Minamoto gives the lead role a recognizable voice. It aired in 2018, which makes it easy to place in the wider anime calendar.
